There are many reasons why you may be considering in home physical therapy. Maybe your doctor has recommended it as a way to speed up the recovery process, or maybe you’ve been told that this is the best way for you to get treatment due to a variety of factors. No matter your reason, if you’re looking for some tips for making sure that home PT goes smoothly, read on!
If there isn’t enough space around where you want to do your exercise routine, then it can be very difficult or impossible, depending on what exercises you need to do. Ensure that you have a good amount of space so that there is enough room for your physical therapist and yourself.
If you don’t already own furniture that can help support you during therapy, then consider buying some or at least sourcing from somewhere. You may also want to think about putting up curtains around where you do your exercises if privacy is an issue with the people living in your house. The point here is to make sure that you’re doing whatever it takes to make it as easy as possible on yourself!
It can be very tempting when starting in home physical therapy. You may want to get through as much as quickly as possible. However, remember that in-home PT is intended to be a slow and steady process. Working too quickly can hurt you, or it can cause you to take a break prematurely when your body needs the time. Go as slowly as necessary for you to get the most out of it.
When in physical therapy at home, you want to make sure that you aren’t distracted by anything else going on around you. For example, if your child is crying or someone is banging on the walls or any other noise, then try and remove yourself from the situation so that you can get some work done. Make a mental note of what distracts you when doing exercises so that it’s not an issue the next time around.
It is always best to keep a schedule when doing physical therapy, including in home physical therapy. This is because it helps to make sure that you are following through with what you need to be doing and gives you something to look forward to (the end of your routine).
There’s nothing worse than trying hard during in home physical therapy only to have stress limit how much better your body can feel. If you find yourself stressed out about the exercises, stop and do something fun for a while. This will help you relax and also allow your body more time to recover.
As you do more and more physical therapy over time, it is important to keep track of how well you feel or if you’re able to do any differently. This will allow for an even better sense when it comes time for your PT at home!
In-home physical therapy is intended to help you feel better, but it may not happen overnight. It’s easy to be frustrated if you aren’t having any major improvements after the first couple of sessions, but make sure that you are patient and don’t give up!
If you have any questions about in home physical therapy, then ask away! Your PT will be happy to answer any questions that you may have related to that topic. Asking can also help get better results.
